The industry has faith in the future – Order soon for spring delivery

2023 looks set to be another strong year for the caravan and motorhome industry in Sweden. This is clear following the Nordic region’s biggest trade fair: the Scandinavian Caravan Show at Elmia in Jönköping, Sweden.
“The show is always a good barometer of the year ahead for the industry. Sweden’s caravan and motorhome dealers clearly demonstrated good faith in the future,” says Klas Brandt, Business Manager for the Scandinavian Caravan Show.

After five busy days of the Scandinavian Caravan Show at Elmia, there is no doubt that interest in the sector is stronger than ever. Dealers have virtually sold out of their current stock of caravans and motorhomes, both new and used. CampingSverige – Sweden’s online camping portal – announced that 2022 will probably be a new record year.

– “The show has been amazing in every way. This year was particularly interesting as many new models are only being shown here at Elmia. Manufacturers and agents don’t have enough stock to put their products on display at dealers,” Brandt explains.

The worldwide shortage of components has had a palpable effect on this sector too, especially when it comes to motorhomes. Many OEMs confirm that they have record order books, but the component shortage means that production cannot keep up with demand.

– “If you’re looking for a caravan or motorhome for summer 2023, we recommend ordering as soon as possible,” said Lars-Erik Hörmander, Chairman of the Swedish industry federation, HRF.

In association with the event at Elmia, the Scandinavian Caravan Show conducted a survey of dealers in Sweden. One of the questions was whether they were worried about the future.

    – “Everyone we asked said no. Reasons included the fact that Swedes are prepared to invest money in their leisure time. Also, because of global unrest people want to have more control over where they go. During the years of the pandemic, with all the related concerns and restrictions, the industry saw a huge increase in sales. Moreover, SCR Swedish Camping has said that campsite owners across Sweden are willing to invest. A lot of them are planning to develop their sites moving forward,” Klas Brandt explains.

The 2022 Scandinavian Caravan Show at Elmia clearly demonstrated that it is the natural arena for the industry, bringing together a total of 130 exhibitors and 29,000 visitors.
