Future Transport Award winners
Four kilos of cast brass is a fair weight for an award. But the honour and prestige of winning a Future Transport Award are even weightier. Stenpiren Travel Centre in Gothenburg, Real Rail and NCC ViaSafe each won a category when the award was presented at Elmia Future Transport in Jönköping, Sweden.
Stenpiren Travel Centre in Gothenburg won the Public Transport category for the way in which the as yet unfinished centre has, according to the panel, given the city an attractive, smoothly functioning node and terminal building, and a hub for switching between tram, bus and ferry. On stage to receive the award on the transport industry’s Gala Evening at Elmia were Stefan Ekman, Infrastructure Manager at Västtrafik, and Marie Björk, Project Manager for Stenpiren.
“Absolutely fantastic!” was their reaction, and they took the opportunity to promise that future travel centres in their region would be along the same eco-friendly lines.
Overall approach with responsibility
Real Rail won in the Intermodal Goods category, the judges explaining that the company had developed intermodal freight transport solutions for the truck/railway combination in an efficient, goal-conscious manner.
In both southern/western Sweden and central/upper Norrland (northern Sweden), Real Rail has taken a total approach with responsibility for large parts of the chain with its own trucks, load carriers, railway wagons and intermodal terminal operation. Thord Sandahl, Managing Director, and Hans Backman, Deputy MD of Real Rail AB received the prize.
Safety in roadworks
NCC ViaSafe won the new category Road Security and was commended for its overall solution for raising safety in large and small roadworks.
“We’ve found it hard to reach out with information about our work, but this award gives us a way of communicating it,” said Hans Säll, Business Development Coordinator at NCC Roads.
The Future Transport Award aims to showcase good solutions and illustrate the industry’s power and commitment, and to highlight ideas and good examples that can meet the needs of the future. Anders Karlsson, Editor-in-Chief of trade magazine Transport & Logistik Idag, and Jörgen Nyström, Business Sector Manager for Elmia Transport, Elmia Nordic Rail and Elmia Nordic Road, are behind the award, and both are also on the panel of judges.
