A world first for better harvesting heads

Hultdins served up a world first at Elmia Wood whose value was at first recognised by only a select group of people. It is a newly developed saw unit for harvesting heads.

“Easier care and maintenance, more reliable operation and the ability to use two types of chain,” sums up the head of its design team, Stefan Bergqvist.

Hultdins is best known for its grapples but half the company’s sales are saw units, which are sold to a number of harvesting head manufacturers. The new saw unit is called SuperCut and was designed to meet those customers’ needs.

“Different markets prefer different chains – some want 0.404, others 3/4 inch. Because this saw unit can handle both, manufacturers only need to make one version of their harvesting head,” Bergqvist explains.

The saw unit is also dimensioned for longer bars up to 90 cm. Visitors to Elmia Wood could see one harvesting head with the new SuperCut 150. A world first, it was the SP 661 LF. More will follow.

Also presented at the fair was an upgraded version of the existing saw unit, the Hultdin SuperCut 100. This new version includes a stronger bar mount with a larger support area for the chain plus a new, more stable chain tension for faster chain replacement while using gloves.

“Contractors who upgrade their existing harvesting heads will have safer operation and fewer chains jumping off,” Bergqvist says.
